DYI Hang Glider Support System -- Rear

Rear System

Here's the entire rear system.

The rear bracket.

Rear Bumper Inserts

Rear bumper.

There is little room between the bumper and the trunk.

It was required to make some holes in the trunk to be able to bolt the bracket to the bumper. This also means that the trunk has to be pretty much emptied to be able to install / remove the bracket.

Rear Support Brackets

Here is the bracket installed.

Steel Cable
The rack system has a steel cable going from the front flat bar, loops twice around the crossbar, then links to the rear flatbar.
Padding

I used pipe foam padding for the flat bars and crossbar.

Summary
Overall, this is a good rack for this small car. It has a solid installation, but still flexes a little under occasional stress. What I like the best is that it is totally removable and fits in the trunk. Glider loading is super easy because the top of the rack is at my shoulder height. Because they're made of silver-colored aluminium, the front uprights blend with the foreground well and they are not too distracting when driving.
The hardest part is that it is awkward to install the rear bracket because the whole trunk has to be emptied. Also, working with aluminium is kind of tough, it is hard to weld things together precisely.
